A couple of weeks ago HB took part in an online workshop called 'The magic of words' by the poets Miss Jacqui and Tychique Ciamala. This sparked an interest in the idea of poetry as something to be performed rather than read. I shared three of my favourite performances; British National Breakfast and Embarassed by Hollie McNish and Storm by Tim Minchin. (FYI some people will find the language inappropriate for younger ears, especially the Tim Minchin one.) HB noted how repeating phrases and rhythm can be powerful and how poetry can be used to argue a point. HB was inspired to compose 'Learning what's important' (with some help from me reading out sections of the national curriculum - which we do not follow but hear about through HB's Aunt).
