The first battle began as we arrived. We were transported to St Albans in 1461. The Yorkists had Warwick on their side, who had captured King Henry VI.
Both sides used archers, hand to hand combat weapons, and guns.
The Lancastrians won the battle.
King Henry VI (who had spent the battle sitting under a tree seemingly unaware of where he was) was rescued. The fate of captured knights was decided.
After the battle it was time for the children's battle.
Next we listened to a talk about the proper way to dress if you are a lady at this time.
HB met Edward IV!
HB chatted to the barber-surgeon, finding out what all his instruments and potions were for.
We looked around the Yorkist and Lancastrian camps and HB chatted with some of the soldiers.
HB played the role of Richard II in a short dramatised story about the wars of the roses.
We watched a demonstration of medieval (very inaccurate and dangerous) guns and canons.
We listened to music by Trouvere (who we first saw at Kenilworth).
Then it was time for the final battle.
It was at Barnet in 1471. Warwick is now leading the Lancastrian side. The battle begins in thick fog, which caused confusion.
Warwick dies and Edward IV is victorious.
