Gorman's Cave Complex is on the island of Gibraltar. The sea level caves contain archaeological deposits from Neanderthals and early modern humans. The evidence suggests that in Gibraltar Neanderthals survived later than elsewhere (until around 32,000 years ago). Gorman's Cave includes a Neanderthal rock engraving.
There are restrictions on how many people can go into the caves per year for conservation reasons, and those going down there have to be cleared by the MOD for security reasons. There was no possibility of a tour into the caves on this occasion but we were given a talk from the viewing platform.
We also visited Gibraltar Museum, which included an exhibition about this cave complex and its finds. Unforunately no photography was allowed.
