Land of Legends is a large, living history site in Denmark. We visited during their stone age week. Lots of specialists and reinactors were on site.
On arrival we made some flour and then HB and HB's Dad took a dug-out canoe out on the lake.
Next we headed to the designated stone age area, past a replica neolithic tomb.
At the Paleolithic camp HB enjoyed chatting to a family of reinactors about paddle making, and used a stone age knife to cut meat.
HB had a look round the different buildings.
HB tried some archery. On leaving this village HB spotted a burial site.
It was then time to cross the stone age bridge to the Mesolithic camp. Here HB chatted to a lady who studies ancient pottery techniques. She talked about the experiments she had done, and got HB measuring some of the clay.
HB watched flint knapping being taught and felt some real furs, which was interesting but very sad.
Next HB chatted with a lady who was experimenting with different ways to spin yarn or string. Her samples included one made from human hair.
She demonstrated a very primitive method of spinning using a stick, which HB later had a go at.
After this we met another family of reinactors who were making rope from part of a tree. The girl showed HB how to do it.
Our final stone age encounter was with an auroch hunter.
