We visited Lullingstone Roman Villa in Kent. HB completed a trial as we explored the ruins and exhibits.
The villa showed evidence of earlier pagan worship and later Christianity. Sadly the wall paintings that were found here are not on site but at the British Museum.
HB enjoyed thinking about goods being traded across the empire and discovering how the walls were plastered.
The villa was originally built towards the end of the first century CE, but was at its most impressive in the mid-4th century.
It was interesting to see the evidence left behind.
HB enjoyed dressing up in Roman clothes fit for a British winter.
It was fun to think about the latin phrases that are still used today.
Probably the most impressive part of the villa was the amazing mosaics.
