On arrival we listened to a fascinating talk entitled 'How to dress a Tudor'. We learnt lots about the layers worn, the differences between the rich and less well off, and some particular ways the Tudors dressed to impress (for example, wearing black if you could afford it and men padding the stomach area to make themselves look fatter).
At the end of the talk Queen Mary Tudor arrived and addressed her loyal subjects.
HB was permitted to come forward for an audience with the Queen. She was impressed with my rapid portrait box.
Next HB started the family trail, time travelling back even further to defend the castle from King John. We walked along the battlements.
Whilst we ate lunch we listened to some Tudor music.
Then HB took part in some Tudor dancing.
Next we looked in the small museum. HB discovered how the food of the rich and poor differed, tried some brass rubbing and dressed up in hats.
Then it was time to watch 'Top of the Chops', taking us through some famous Tudor executions, acted out with potatoes. Bit grim!
At the end of the day we walked around the outside of the castle while HB completed the family trail, helping Mary Tudor root out spies and protect the castle.
Then there was time for a few slides down from the battlements.
