1940s Weekend at Hughenden Manor

During the Second World War Hughenden Manor was used as a top-secret base for bomb-target mapping, codenamed ‘Operation Hillside’. HB was able to look at some contemporary mapping tools.

We took part in a 1940s dance lesson, learning 5 different dances.

We watched a Punch and Judy show where Mr Punch went on a mission to kill Hitler.

We watched a fight between the German and allied forces.

HB danced with the Polka Dots, and then we listened to them sing.

HB used a metal detector to find land mines.

We visited the hospital camp.

We visited the American camp and were shown how photographs were taken and sent back home.

HB snuck up on the Germans and discovered that many in the German army rode bicycles.
