HB began space day by making a flip book showing and explaining the phases of the moon.
Next HB and friends discussed why astronauts needed space suits and helmets. HB's younger friends made paper plate helmets and HB discovered the layers used in a real space suit and made a model of them. They then did some fitness training in the park and thought about why astronauts on the International Space Station need to spend lots of time exercising.
Next they measured out (to scale) how far away each planet in our solar system is from the sun. The outer planets are a lot further away! They looked at pictures (some NASA images, some artist interpretations) of the sun from other planets. They thought about how big the sun would look and how each atmosphere (or lack thereof) would affect what they could see. After lunch they made a model of the solar system.
HB enjoyed making and eating a fruit rocket kebab. They ended the day by 'firing' balloon rockets.
