April 2017, Reception Year, age 5

We walked up the hill to the settlement, where we had our faces painted and entered the main round house for an introductory talk.

HB's first task was to grind grain into flour and make dough.

After this they were led into the herb garden, where they were talked through some of the uses of the plants that grow there.

Next they entered a smaller roundhouse where they made and then dyed a bracelet each.

After lunch HB had a go at carding in pairs and watched a drop spindle being used. (HB actually has quite a bit of experience with carding and spinning as it's been a recent topic of interest at home and during two Tudor living history days, so he felt quite the pro.)

In groups of three they added to a piece of cloth on a loom.
