Brochs were impressive, multi-story, stone, iron age structures.
We went to see the remains of Carloway Broch, but found a sign saying the footpath was closed. We walked further along and found another path up (in hindsight, I'm not sure the footpath was meant to exist, but it was very clearly a path), giving us a partial view of the site.
We returned two days later and went round the small exhibition.
We climbed up to see the broch from a different angle. We couldn't get up close however as the site is closed for preservation reasons.
