We attended a course called 'Archery through the ages'. It began with a talk about the type of archery and arrows/bows used at different points in history. We then had a chance to try different bows. The bow used by the Romans was the hardest to use. It required a huge amount of strength to pull back. We concluded that the Romans could not have loosed their arrows nearly as quickly as the medieval archers.
