We passed the area known as Sycamore Gap.

In this section the wall passes over dramatic crags which offered additional defence and an impressive visual statement of power. We also passed through some wooden areas, which included the remains of a Turret.

We passed the farm where Milecastle 38 was situated, but could not see any remains.

There were still a few steep upward sections, but from this point on we mostly descended.

By the time we reached the walls of Housesteads Fort it was brighter but starting to get cold! It was too late to explore the fort, but we will be back later in the week.
