This was our second time at Dig! This time we booked onto the full session. Whilst we waited for the session to begin we explored the exhibits, 'Mapping the Evidence' and 'Making Faces'.
The session began with a talk about archaeology.
We then went to dig in the pits. We dug in several time period pits, but HB's favourite was discovering the (fake) remains of Viking Coppergate. The session facilitator helped HB consider what we might be uncovering.
After our time in the pits we were able to handle real archaeological finds. The finds were taken from one location in Coppergate. We were asked to sort the finds into categories and then encouraged to think about who the finds may have belonged to. Our finds tray included a lot of antler pieces.
After the session we continued to explore the exhibits.
HB really enjoyed thinking about how to accurately record where finds come from.
Before leaving Dig! HB explored all the remaining presentations and displays.
