Last time we visited the Yorvik Viking Festival the Yorvik Centre was still closed, having experienced a devastating flood. This time we were able to go in. When you first enter you come to a room with the Viking street laid out beneath you, roughly as it was uncovered.
You then travel back in time to scenes based on the archaeological evidence. An audio guide in your time travel car gives you information about the finds and the scenes before you.
HB listened to a slightly different audio guide aimed at children.
The archaeological evidence from Coppergate told us lots about Viking trades, health and beliefs.
After the time travel ride you enter a museum gallery of artefacts. HB completed a trail around this section.
This area includes a member of staff giving talks about different archaeological finds.
HB particularly enjoyed exploring the evidence provided by a set of bones, and being grossed out by the fossilised human poo.
HB watched coins being minted.
